Joined the U.S. Army and served as light morter crew man. |

 |
His military career took him to New Guiea,The South Philippine Liberation, and Luzon. During his military career he earned many decorations to include four Bronze Stars, a Bronze Arrowhead, and he earned his Purple heart on April 4, 1945 when he was wounded by an enemy grenade. |
